Browser Wars - Netscape Vs Microsoft

Consider the case of Browser Wars in the 90’s when the monopoly solely rested with Netscape but which was ultimately white washed by Internet Explorer only due to Marketing Myopia. Netscape owners thought that browsers’ monopoly will always rest with them, so they gave very little heed to upcoming threat from Microsoft. Microsoft gave an offer to Netscape for sharing of technology only to be denied by the latter the price of which had to be borne heavily by the Netscape. Microsoft started innovation in the Internet World by integrating Internet Explorer with their operating system- Windows.
They also approached a lot of manufacturers and ISPs for integrating Internet Explorer with their applications. This was the turn around moment for the Netscape when it started losing its market share. They became so afraid that they stopped thinking about any innovation and focused solely on their limited product. Their top notch people started resigning and the company was soon orphaned due to this. Then, AOL took control of Netscape and merged its applications with their own but that also failed and finally AOL raised its hands for Netscape. One of the reasons for the failure of Netscape was lack of customer centric approach, lack of innovation and a proper long term strategy which was followed by its competitors like Microsoft and very soon the monopoly of Netscape became a history.
